Well-maintained pebble beds in a courtyard garden

Summer: dust

Dust settles into the top layer and mutes the colour, particularly on white and polished stone. A rinse every three to four weeks is enough in most cities.

Monsoon: silt and displacement

Rain carries silt across beds and moves stone on any slope. Clear outlets before the season starts, and rake beds level once the heavy rain ends.

Winter: organic debris

Leaf fall is the main issue. Remove it before it breaks down into the stone layer, which is what creates the growing medium weeds need.
