Garden pebbles is the practical category rather than a single stone type: the sizes, colours and finishes that work well in home gardens, whether that is a 40 sq ft balcony bed or the landscaped setback of an apartment block.
Most residential projects settle on 10–30 mm material laid 40–60 mm deep over a weed membrane. That gives full coverage without an excessive stone requirement, and it is shallow enough that topping up later is inexpensive.

- 40–60 mm depth is the usual coverage for decorative beds.
- Use a permeable membrane below so the stone does not sink into soil.
- Keep a small quantity in reserve for topping up after the first monsoon.
Maintenance
- Remove leaf litter before it breaks down into the stone bed.
- Rinse in the dry season; rake after heavy rain.
