How to Install Pebbles in a Garden
Most pebble beds that fail were laid in the wrong order. The sequence matters.

Preparation
Clear existing weeds at the root, then level and lightly compact the soil. Set the finished soil level 50–60 mm below the adjacent paving so the stone finishes flush rather than spilling over.
Membrane and edging
Lay a permeable geotextile with 100 mm overlaps, pinned at the edges. Cut crosses for existing plants rather than large openings. Then fix the edge restraint before any stone arrives on the bed.
Spreading and finishing
Tip stone in small loads and rake outwards rather than dropping a large pile in one place, which stretches the membrane. Finish by raking level and hosing down to wash off processing dust.
