Black Pebbles for Modern Landscaping
Black pebbles give a contemporary landscape its weight. Against light paving, cream walls or timber decking, a band of black stone defines edges far more effectively than planting alone, which is why architects use it around plunge pools, entrance courts and linear water bodies.
Polished black is the dramatic option — it reads almost lacquered when wet. Natural black is quieter and better suited to large open areas that will collect dust between cleaning.

- Black stone absorbs heat — avoid large expanses immediately beside seating in hot, dry regions.
- For water features, polished black at 20–50 mm holds its position and looks best submerged.
- Pair with white or grey pebbles for graphic banding.
Maintenance
- Rinse to restore depth of colour; dust reads as a grey film on black stone.
- Avoid harsh acids, which can etch some black stone types.
- Top up occasionally in areas where stones are displaced by foot traffic.
