Zone rather than cover
Covering an entire terrace in stone adds significant dead load and looks flat. Bands of stone between decking, paving and planters give the same visual effect at a fraction of the weight.
Keep depth shallow
30–40 mm is usually enough on a slab. Confirm the load allowance with a structural engineer before going deeper — a 40 mm layer over 100 sq ft is already around 550 kg.
Do not obstruct drainage
Keep stone clear of outlets and check them before the monsoon. A blocked terrace outlet does far more damage than any landscape decision.
