How Architects Use Decorative Pebbles in Modern Projects

Marking transitions
The most common architectural use of pebble is a narrow band where two materials meet: paving against wall, deck against lawn, building against ground. The stone absorbs the tolerance and makes the junction deliberate.
Light wells and non-usable space
Sunken light wells, service margins and setbacks are difficult to plant and awkward to pave. Pale stone brightens them, drains freely and needs no irrigation.
Courtyards and internal gardens
In courtyard houses, a stone field with a few placed boulders and restrained planting gives the calm the space is there to provide — and it survives being viewed from every surrounding room.
