Measure the area honestly
Irregular beds are easiest handled by splitting them into rectangles and adding the results. Do not deduct small planting pockets — the extra stone becomes your top-up allowance.
Choose a depth that matches the purpose
- 25–30 mm — planter top dressing
- 40–50 mm — standard decorative garden bed
- 60–75 mm — stronger weed suppression
- 75–100 mm — drainage layers and French drains
Reading the result
The calculator returns a weight range rather than a single number because bulk density varies by stone type and grade. Order towards the upper end if the ground is soft or the bed will be walked on.
