A cantonment city with its own rhythm
Jabalpur's cantonment area gives the city a distinct landscaping character compared with purely commercial central Indian towns. Defence and institutional campuses here maintain their grounds to a fairly consistent standard, and periodic refresh of garden beds, parade-ground surrounds and officer accommodation frontage is a steady, recurring source of demand rather than a one-off project. Natural river pebbles and grey pebbles are common choices for these grounds because they read as tidy and low-maintenance without looking decorative in a way that would feel out of place on a working campus.
Sadar, which sits close to the cantonment, carries some of the same understated garden style into its private bungalows, with owners often choosing similar mid-tone stone to what they see used on the institutional grounds nearby.
