A hill city where slope changes everything
Ranchi's plateau setting means a large number of properties, from institutional campuses to bungalow gardens in Kanke and Bariatu, sit on plots with some degree of natural slope. This is the single most important factor to plan around when laying decorative pebbles here, because loose stone on a gradient behaves very differently from stone on flat ground — it migrates downhill over time under gravity, foot traffic and monsoon runoff, even when the slope looks fairly gentle to the eye.
The practical response is straightforward: use a larger pebble grade on sloped ground, since bigger stones resist rolling and washing far more effectively than small ones, and pair this with a firm edge — brick, kerb stone or a retaining strip — at the base of any slope to catch stone before it spreads into a path or lawn area below.
