Desert gardening, built around stone
Bikaner's desert setting makes water-saving landscaping less of a trend and more of a default. Lawns need constant irrigation that is genuinely difficult to sustain here, so many homes and heritage properties replace grass entirely with pebble or gravel beds, sometimes across the whole front garden rather than as an accent strip. This gives Bikaner a distinct pattern of demand compared to greener parts of the country — buyers are usually thinking in terms of covering an entire plot rather than a small decorative pocket.
The dry heat and blowing sand common to the region mean stone surfaces here need to cope with grit exposure over time. Pale stone such as white pebbles is popular for its cooling appearance in open courtyards, but buyers should expect some dulling from dust that a periodic wash can address.
